Garry Adelman of the Center for Civil War photography has promised future revelations regarding the structures. The one thing he did establish, and publicize already, is that the "Allen" House was oriented to the southeast rear of Clarke, as a kitchen dependency. Garry promises considerable information on this series of images. If the smaller structure did indeed serve as headquarters for Lafayette in 1781 is, by some indications, up for debate.John Cummingshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15664001896165763192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4693055636846442705.post-49896509384633628482014-01-05T08:20:20.362-05:002014-01-05T08:20:20.362-05:00So fascinating. Does anyone know the complete name and possibly date of birth and death of the owners of the Allen house at the time?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4693055636846442705.post-62786782496751485672013-10-18T07:11:09.621-04:002013-10-18T07:11:09.621-04:00Would the Anonymous commenter from Yorktown please...Would the Anonymous commenter from Yorktown please contact me via email? No spoilers here as well. Garry's work corrects some mislabeling of images, and his scanning for hidden details has left that indisputable. Major mystery solved. Looking forward to his published results.John Cummingshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15664001896165763192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4693055636846442705.post-74669063312706512802013-10-16T18:30:27.926-04:002013-10-16T18:30:27.926-04:00I grew up in Yorktown and many historians have don...I grew up in Yorktown and many historians have done this research before. I implore you to seek out area historians so you are not reinventing the wheel. Many of the houses are gone now, except the Moore House obviously. Several of the batteries are now underwater (i.e. the mortar batteries on Wormley) and some of the locations of the photographs are on the Coast Guard installation. Best wishes!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4693055636846442705.post-12055127620371868122013-10-16T18:19:55.615-04:002013-10-16T18:19:55.615-04:00Nicely done, John!
