It had been rebuilt by 1872, per Noel Harrison's excellent book on Chancellorsville Battlefield Sites, published by H. E. I came across a photo of the building supposedly taken in 1876, as well as a drawing from 1884 from Battles and Leaders of the Civil War. They were uploaded on the whatwasthere website hopefully oriented at their proper locations against Google Streetview.
Dave G, Halifax NSAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4693055636846442705.post-73805838186557017672012-04-14T08:33:50.944-04:002012-04-14T08:33:50.944-04:00For those interested in other images of the Chance...For those interested in other images of the Chancellor House, I would suggest going to the Library of Congress Prints & Photographs website. In the search criteria simply type in Chancellorsville and you should find numerous images of the house after it burned as well as some great archaeological report renderings. There are also numerous images to be found drawn on site by newspaper artists of the day. That link is : http://www.loc.gov/pictures/
The staff of the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park also produce a fine blog that has featured many posts about the area. It is well worth browsing. That link is here: http://npsfrsp.wordpress.com/
And, there is also a wealth of information to be had about the family at: http://spotsylvaniamemory.blogspot.com/2012/03/chancellors-part-1.html
Thanks for commenting.
John CummingsJohn Cummingshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15664001896165763192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4693055636846442705.post-71005371348585501132012-04-13T16:19:58.949-04:002012-04-13T16:19:58.949-04:00Hi John, I live near the Chancellorsville house an...Hi John, I live near the Chancellorsville house and enjoy the old pictures of the house and Plank Road. Can you recommend any other resources where I can see more old pictures of Chancellorsville house and Plank Road like the one you posted courtesy of Kathleen Covin?Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11789475750903151885noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4693055636846442705.post-82939919903361374552012-02-03T09:18:25.622-05:002012-02-03T09:18:25.622-05:00Corey,

Also, the roof line went from a multi-level, gable and possible combination shed roof design, to an overall, one height, mansard style for the reconstruction.

John CummingsJohn Cummingshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15664001896165763192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4693055636846442705.post-10964550174612332952012-02-02T16:44:52.726-05:002012-02-02T16:44:52.726-05:00John,
